چکیده

The Perspective-n-Point (PnP) problem seeks to estimate the pose of a calibrated camera from n 3D-to-2D point correspondences. There are situations, though, where PnP solutions are prone to fail because feature point correspondences cannot be reliably estimated (e.g. scenes with repetitive patterns or with low texture). In such scenarios, one can still exploit alternative geometric entities, such as lines, yielding the so-called Perspective-n-Line (PnL) algorithms. Unfortunately, existing PnL solutions are not as accurate and efficient as their point-based counterparts. In this paper we propose a novel approach to introduce 3D-to-2D line correspondences into a PnP formulation, allowing to simultaneously process points and lines. For this purpose we introduce an algebraic line error that can be formulated as linear constraints on the line endpoints, even when these are not directly observable. These constraints can then be naturally integrated within the linear formulations of two state-of-the-art point-based algorithms, the OPnP [45] and the EPnP [24], allowing them to indistinctly handle points, lines, or a combination of them. Exhaustive experiments show that the proposed formulation brings remarkable boost in performance compared to only point or only line based solutions, with a negligible computational overhead compared to the original OPnP and EPnP.

Camera Pose Estimation in Unknown Environments using a Sequence of Wide-Baseline Monocular Images

In this paper, a feature-based technique for the camera pose estimation in a sequence of wide-baseline images has been proposed. Camera pose estimation is an important issue in many computer vision and robotics applications, such as, augmented reality and visual SLAM. The proposed method can track captured images taken by hand-held camera in room-sized workspaces with maximum scene depth of 3-4...

A Line-Point Unified Solution to Relative Camera Pose Estimation

In this work we present a unified method of relative camera pose estimation from points and lines correspondences. Given a set of 2D points and lines correspondences in three views, of which two are known, a method has been developed for estimating the camera pose of the third view. Novelty of this algorithm is to combine both points and lines correspondences in the camera pose estimation which...

Linear Pose Estimation from Points or Lines

Estimation of camera pose from an image of n points or lines with known correspondence is a thoroughly studied problem in computer vision. Most solutions are iterative and depend on nonlinear optimization of some geometric constraint, either on the world coordinates or on the projections to the image plane. For real-time applications, we are interested in linear or closed-form solutions free of...

Robust and Accurate Line- and/or Point-Based Pose Estimation without Manhattan Assumptions

Usual Structure from Motion techniques based on feature points have a hard time on scenes with little texture or presenting a single plane, as in indoor environments. Line segments are more robust features in this case. We propose a novel geometrical criterion for two-view pose estimation using lines, that does not assume a Manhattan world. We also define a parameterless (a contrario) RANSAC-li...

Absolute pose estimation from line correspondences using direct linear transformation

This work is concerned with camera pose estimation from correspondences of 3D/2D lines, i.e. with the Perspective-n-Line (PnL) problem. We focus on large line sets, which can be efficiently solved by methods using linear formulation of PnL. We propose a novel method ‘DLT-Combined-Lines’ based on the Direct Linear Transformation (DLT) algorithm, which benefits from a new combination of two exist...
